4K animation, 43 mins, 2024
This animation was made over the first three months of my second daughter’s life, though it began life as a digital drawing from a photo taken on my residency at Artlink, Donegal in Ireland back in 2019. It features a character based on the mythical figure of the Green Man walking through various landscapes. The character has my voice, and he talks directly to the audience, trying to explain why this isn’t the work he/I wanted to make. The Green Man apologises, makes slightly resentful excuses, and tries to explain some of the things that would have been in the work, if he/I had managed to make it. In this part, the Green Man sings a song about how he’s been forgotten, written by the artist/musician Nicolas Burrows from the band Fell.
